Our Instructors
All of the instructors and have been personally trained by Grandmaster Sung Lee. Instructors and Assistant Instructors are required to complete several levels of instructor training. The Instructors at Sung Lee TaeKwonDo Academy have a high level of technical skills as well as the ability to relate well to all children. We work with children of all ages and understand that younger children have shorter attentions spans.
Noah Gandecki (Main Gym)
Noah Gandecki is a black belt, certified in first aid and is currently the head instructor of main gym. He started his training at Main Gym at age of 9, joining with his brother and later on the rest of his family. He was an active member on the Hwarang team, Demo Team, servant program and proceeded to volunteer his time to helping with promotion tests, tournaments, and camps held throughout the year. As time passed he achieved the rank of assistant instructor and began teaching more often around main gym, eventually running the camps on his own as well as teaching weekends. After schooling he was given the opportunity to become a head instructor at the Ellerslie branch of Sung Lee Taekwondo. There he trained and ran the school for 5 years before being given the opportunity to return to Main Gym as head instructor. After continuous training he attained the rank of BooSaBumNim and runs the Main Gym Demo Team, as well as social committee. He is dedicated to teaching respect, loyalty, and integrity, and is working hard to see the growth of a strong and healthy Dojang.
Michelle Heyden (Ellerslie Gym)
Michelle was introduced to taekwondo in her early teens by a friend that brought her to "Bring a Friend" class. She found her passion in Taekwondo. The many programs offered at Sung Lee saw her achieve becoming a Hwarang member, a Demo Team member and a Black Belt in less than 3 years. Michelle has performed at the Korean pavilion at Heritage Days. She has performed at City Hall and before a news channel from Korea. Michelle, with a small group of sutdents represented Sung Lee Taekwondo at the Hanmanday International Tournament. She started her apprenticeship at the age of 18 under Grandmaster Lee. Michelle believes in black belt excellence which is taught at Sung Lee Taekwondo. Michelle tries to inspire her students to achieve their personal best, learn leadership skills and inspire them to be good citizens with integrity and honesty. Her achievement of becoming an Assistant Master has only increased her desire to become a better instructor and martial artist with the hopes of passing her knowledge and desire to achieve on to her students
Joseph Jubinville (St. Paul Gym)
Joseph's father brought him to Sung Lee Taekwondo as a gift for his eleventh birthday. He has been in Sung Lee Taekwondo for twenty six years. In 2008, he became the head instructor of the St. Paul Branch school. He enjoys teaching his students taekwondo, its principles and is honored to make a good impact in their lives. He says, "at the end of the day if I can give one of my students a little more confidence, respect for others, obedience and have self control, then it is all worth it."
Raxle Uygen (Main Gym)
Instructor Raxle has 15+ years experience in Martial Arts. Being born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Raxle has had previous experience in Filipino Martial Arts. Going to competitive tournaments such as nationals. After moving to Edmonton, Alberta she began her journey in Taekwondo at the Main Dojang as a way to make new friends and to keep active. Becoming involved as an orange belt by volunteering as a servant in promotion tests, and in classes Raxle was recognized with the award as the most volunteered person. Being in both the demo, and Hwarang team for many years, she was given the title as "Demo Team Captain" in the Master's Demo Team, and now runs the Main Gym Demo Team with Noah Gandecki.
Anna Thai (Main Gym)
